The collection of the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is focused on works made by Russian artists from the 1980s to the 2020s. The collection is closely tied to the archive on the history of Russian contemporary art that the Museum has been compiling since 2012.
Drawing on an extensive research and continuing the work that has been done through programs such as Garage Field Research and GARAGE.txt, as well as exhibition projects based on Garage Archive Collection, the Museum focuses on lesser-known trajectories in the history of Russian art and not only on the key figures of recent decades but also on rarely exhibited artists. In working with new generation artists, Garage expands its long-standing practice of supporting young art.
The collection is built up through purchases and gifts and is presented in open storage format in the main Museum building.
The project is accompanied by an extensive education program, which includes mediation sessions, lecture series, classes for children, and more.
